Incomplete List of Conservative Policies Inflicted on Britain Since 2010 | Jonn Elledge

Over the past 14 years, the Conservative government in the UK has led the country down a path of neglect and austerity, resulting in what can only be described as a “Broken Britain”. From massive budget cuts to public services, to a lack of investment in essential infrastructure, to damaging environmental policies, the government’s failures have been numerous and far-reaching.

The cuts made by George Osborne in his first budget led to reductions in essential services such as Sure Start centres and Connexions, causing long-term damage to the well-being of children and young people. Local government budgets were slashed, resulting in decreased services and rising demand for adult social care. Welfare recipients faced cuts to housing allowances and benefits, driving many into poverty and homelessness.

The government’s approach to environmental policy, including the abandonment of green energy subsidies and the privatisation of the Green Investment Bank, has cost households money and harmed efforts to combat climate change. Additionally, the decision to hold a referendum on Brexit, followed by the mishandling of negotiations and the aftermath, has damaged the UK’s economy and reputation on the world stage.

The hostile environment policies implemented by Theresa May’s Home Office, including the “go home” vans and the Windrush scandal, have further exacerbated issues of discrimination and xenophobia in the UK. The government’s disregard for human rights and the well-being of marginalized communities has only worsened in recent years.

As the UK approaches another election, the failures of the Conservative government are being scrutinized more than ever. From broken promises to damaging policies, the legacy of this government will be one of neglect and hardship for many in the country.
