Democratic voters in Indiana are ready for change at the top of the ticket, according to challengers to Terry Goodin’s bid for lieutenant governor. Clif Marsiglio and Tamie Dixon-Tatum are both vying for the position alongside Jennifer McCormick, who has endorsed Goodin. Both challengers believe that voters are tired of the status quo and are looking for a fresh perspective in leadership.
Marsiglio, a systems analyst, and mental health advocate, decided to run after hearing rumors that McCormick might choose a Republican running mate. He believes that Goodin, a historically conservative Democrat, does not represent the change that Democrats are seeking. Dixon-Tatum, a human rights coordinator and former UAW organizer, joined the race due to the “urgency of now” and a desire to make a difference in Indiana politics.
Both candidates are open to working with the Senate, with Dixon-Tatum emphasizing her focus on legislation that benefits everyday Hoosiers and Marsiglio expressing interest in disrupting the Senate’s flow of business to bring attention to key issues. They both have experience with the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority and understand the importance of addressing homelessness and out-of-state investors in the housing market.
The candidates will present their platforms on “All INdiana Politics,” which airs on WISH-TV. The Indiana Democratic Party delegates will gather on July 13 to select a lieutenant governor nominee to join Jennifer McCormick on the ticket. Voters will have the opportunity to choose a candidate who represents their desire for real change and a fresh perspective in leadership.
