The winner of this year’s Brickyard 400 will walk away with a trophy that combines the familiar brick theme with a new twist. The switch in race format from the IMS oval to the road course and back has brought changes, most noticeably in the trophy design. The new winner’s trophy is a replica of the Culver Blocks that once made up the Speedway’s surface, molded from an original brick at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
In addition to the winner’s trophy, a larger PPG Trophy featuring the Speedway’s Wing and Wheel emblem will be staying with the track. The PPG Trophy has been updated to include “RC” next to the winners’ names from the road course races of the last three years. Indianapolis Motor Speedway President Doug Boles and Jason VanSickle from the IMS museum discussed these changes in a recent episode of the Behind The Bricks podcast.
Boles showcased both the Brickyard 400 winner’s trophy and the Xfinity Series trophy at the WISH-TV studios on Daybreak. The Xfinity Series trophy features a red version of the Speedway oval in the center. The entire Behind the Bricks episode can be viewed on the IMS social media channels, and the stories can be listened to on the All INdiana Podcast Network for those on the go. These new trophy designs reflect the rich history and evolution of the Brickyard 400 race at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
