Pedestrian narrowly avoids being hit by lamp at Bottleworks intersection

A recent incident in the Bottleworks District near downtown Indianapolis has raised concerns about pedestrian safety in the area. A dramatic video captured an SUV hitting a lamp post, narrowly missing two people. This is not an isolated event, as it was the sixth lamp post destroyed by vehicles in the area, leading residents to deem the intersection dangerous.

Richard Sullivan, a longtime resident of the area, expressed frustration with the lack of action to address the ongoing safety concerns. Despite the installation of a speed table three years ago to slow down traffic, vehicles continue to speed through, with some even using the table as a launching pad.

Neighbors, including Sullivan, have called for the speed table to be removed or for a better design to be implemented to prevent future accidents. The Chatham Arch neighborhood recently voted and requested the removal of the speed table, but their concerns have been largely ignored.

The Department of Public Works stated that they do not have a record of crashes in the area and that the speed table was built by a private company, Bottleworks. However, residents feel that they were not consulted during the design and construction process, leading to a lack of neighborhood input.

AES Indiana has confirmed that they are aware of the broken light pole and are taking immediate action to address the safety issues in the area. Overall, residents are calling for more collaboration between the city, developers, and residents to ensure the safety of pedestrians in the Bottleworks District.
