Former professional football player Cierre Wood was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 10 years for the murder of his girlfriend’s 5-year-old daughter in April 2019. Wood pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse as part of a deal with prosecutors. The Clark County District Court Judge ordered him to also serve between 28 months and six years for the child abuse charge, with the sentences to be served consecutively. Prosecutors dismissed the remaining child abuse charges against Wood, who entered an Alford plea. Wood had played for the University of Notre Dame and had brief stints with three NFL teams and the Montreal Alouettes in Canada. The child’s mother, Amy Taylor, also pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and felony child abuse earlier in the year. The child, La’Rayah Davis, died on April 9, 2019, of blunt force injuries. Wood’s lawyer was not immediately available for comment.
