Carmel High School Senior Alex Shackell Returns to School with Olympic Medals
CARMEL, Ind. – Carmel High School is celebrating one of their own this week as senior Alex Shackell returns to the classroom after representing the United States at the Tokyo Olympics. Shackell, a talented swimmer, brought home silver and gold medals, and her school district couldn’t be prouder.
Shackell, who comes from a family of swimmers, fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming an Olympian. Her father Nick also competed in the Olympics, representing Great Britain in the 1996 and 2000 games. With a grandmother who taught her to swim at a young age, it’s clear that swimming is a passion that runs in the Shackell family.
In addition to Alex’s success, her brother Aaron also qualified for the 400-meter freestyle event at the 2024 Summer Games. Alex is not the only one earning praise from her community – the City of Carmel has even rebranded itself as “Swim City USA” in honor of the 14 swimmers from the city who participated in the Olympic swim trials this summer.
As Alex returns to school and prepares for her senior year, she is receiving a warm welcome from her fellow students and faculty. A recent Facebook post from Carmel Clay Schools shows her proudly displaying her hard-earned medals at the school’s entrance, with a message of encouragement to keep hitting the books.
With the support of her school and community behind her, Alex Shackell is sure to continue making waves both in and out of the pool. Congratulations to this inspiring young athlete on her incredible achievements.
