Consumer Reports recently conducted a round of testing on unscented 13-gallon trash bags from nine popular brands to determine which ones were the most durable and reliable. Using a force gauge to measure puncture resistance, wall and bottom strength, and drawstring durability, testers found that Simplehuman Tall Trash Bags and Walmart’s Great Value Trash Bags performed the best in the tests. Surprisingly, the Reli. SuperValue garbage bags also scored well and were the least expensive of the bunch.
However, not all brands fared well in Consumer Reports’ testing. Glad ForceFlex, Amazon Basics’ Tall Kitchen Drawstring Bags, and HoldOn Compostable Tall Kitchen bags were found to be lacking in quality and durability, despite being priced higher than the more effective options. CR warns against finding out the hard way that these bags are not up to par when it comes to containing trash and avoiding messy clean-ups.
While most Simplehuman trash bags are designed to fit their specific trash cans, Consumer Reports notes that they can still be used with other cans, providing a high level of quality and performance. Overall, spending more money on trash bags does not necessarily guarantee a better product, as evidenced by the results of their testing. Consumers are encouraged to consider the performance and efficiency of a trash bag rather than just the brand name or price tag when making their purchasing decisions.
