Wally Amos, founder of the beloved Famous Amos cookie, passes away at 88

Wallace “Wally” Amos, the creator of the Famous Amos cookie empire, has passed away at the age of 88. He founded the world’s first cookie store in Los Angeles in 1975, but eventually lost ownership of the company, as well as the rights to use his name. He went on to open a cookie shop called Chip & Cookie in Hawaii. Despite struggles as a businessman, he continued to be a well-known figure in the cookie industry.

Amos was married six times to five women, and he had a strong love for love. He moved to Hawaii while serving in the Air Force and found success with Famous Amos. He also co-founded Uncle Wally’s Muffin Co.

While Amos lost control of his cookie business, he never let his fame affect him. He believed that being famous was overrated. After losing Famous Amos, he faced personal and professional struggles, but continued to promote reading, children’s literacy, and volunteered for various organizations.

Amos wrote books, gave motivational talks, and received recognition for his volunteer efforts, including a literacy award presented by President George H.W. Bush. Despite setbacks in his businesses, he reinvented himself and began a muffin business and a cookie shop in Hawaii.

Amos’s legacy lives on through his children, who were inspired by his entrepreneurial spirit and love of baking. They continue to cherish the chocolate chip cookie tradition that he passed down to them.
