White House prepares for staff changes as aides transition to Harris campaign

Two White House staffers are set to leave the Biden administration to join Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign as it expands in the final 80 days leading up to Election Day. Kristen Orthman, the principal deputy communications director, will move to the campaign in a planning role coordinating across various departments. Ian Sams, the White House counsel spokesman for oversight, will also join the campaign as a senior spokesperson. Deputy communications director Herbie Ziskend is being promoted to handle messaging around President Biden’s legacy as he nears the end of his term. Kate Berner will serve as a communications advisor to the Harris campaign and as a senior advisor to Governor Tim Walz’s team.

The Harris campaign plans to announce more new staff roles soon. Ziskend, who previously worked with Biden when he was a senator and for Vice President Harris, will work closely with White House communications director Ben LaBolt on the president’s agenda for the remainder of his term. LaBolt praised Ziskend as a trusted Biden aide and lauded Orthman for her contributions to the administration. These staffing changes highlight the collaboration between the Biden administration and the Harris campaign as they work towards victory in the upcoming election.
