ISIL Takes Credit for Stabbing Attack in Solingen, Germany | Crime Report

Authorities in western Germany are still searching for the perpetrator of a knife attack that claimed the lives of three individuals in Solingen. The group ISIL has claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that the perpetrator targeted Christians. The attack occurred during festivities marking Solingen’s 650th anniversary, leaving one woman and two men dead and eight others wounded.

A 15-year-old boy was arrested following the attack, with witnesses reporting a conversation they had overheard that corresponded to the events that unfolded. Police have conducted raids and urged the public to remain vigilant until the perpetrator is found. The German Minister of the Interior and Community, Nancy Faeser, visited Solingen and vowed to support the city and its people.

While officials have not classified the attack as terrorism, the incident has been described as an act of terror against the security of the country. ISIL, which at one point controlled significant territory in Iraq and Syria, has faced defeat in recent years but continues to claim responsibility for attacks around the world.

In response to the attack, Solingen has established an online portal for witnesses to share information and churches in the area have opened their doors to provide support. The Festival of Diversity, celebrating Solingen’s anniversary, has been cancelled following the tragic events. Mayor Tim-Oliver Kurzbach expressed shock and grief over the incident, emphasizing the need for unity in the face of such violence.
