Israel has launched air strikes on Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, claiming it was a pre-emptive move in self-defence against an imminent Hezbollah missile and rocket attack. The IDF warned of an extensive Hezbollah response, potentially escalating into a wider war, as both sides exchange fire. The IDF spokesman, Daniel Hagari, urged Lebanese civilians to move to safety as Hezbollah prepares for a major offensive against Israel.
Israeli officials indicated they do not seek a full-scale war but will respond to threats from Hezbollah. Israel carried out over 40 airstrikes in southern Lebanon, destroying Hezbollah launch pads. Despite the attacks, only one injury was reported in Lebanon.
Hezbollah’s attack came in retaliation for the killing of its top military commander, Fouad Shukur, by Israel. The group had been planning a response for nearly a month. Shukur’s assassination and subsequent threats from Hezbollah and Iran had raised concerns about a coordinated attack against Israel.
The situation remains tense, with Israel’s Iron Dome defense system intercepting rockets from Lebanon. Both sides are on high alert, and the risk of escalation into a full-blown conflict is a significant concern. The international community is closely monitoring the situation to prevent further violence in the region.
