The Indianapolis Colts have launched the second season of their High School Girls Flag Football league, with 27 teams participating across the state of Indiana. The league was created in 2023 with eight high school teams from Indianapolis and South Bend, and has since grown significantly. Teams include female athletes from schools such as Pike, Warren Central, Michigan City, Hanover Central, and Ben Davis.
Ben Davis Head Coach Adonis Dix expressed excitement for the upcoming season, stating that the Colts’ initiative to introduce flag football has been well received by schools and players. The Colts aim to establish girls’ flag football as a sanctioned high school sport in Indiana, recognizing the growth in popularity of the sport among female athletes.
Each team will play a three-week season, with the Colts covering all costs including coaching stipends, travel expenses, game personnel, and equipment. The team will also provide USA Football coaching memberships for all coaches and jerseys for all teams, in partnership with Nike. USA Football will also provide equipment kits to new schools joining the league.
The Colts’ vice chair, Kalen Jackson, emphasized the importance of providing girls with the opportunity to participate in the sport, stating, “Everyone should have a chance to take part in our great sport.” The league aims to promote inclusion and growth for female athletes in Indiana.
