Despair in Ukraine as Russian missiles and drones continue to strike without interception.


A missile strike in Kryvyi Rih, Ukraine, resulted in two deaths and ongoing search efforts in the rubble. Russia’s attacks on Ukraine intensified, with hundreds of drones and missiles launched, causing at least seven fatalities and damaging the energy grid. Ukrainian President Zelenskiy called on Western allies for air defense support and permission to strike deep into Russian territory. Despite the activation of air defense systems, Russia continued to launch missiles and drones, resulting in widespread damage across 15 regions.

Russian airstrikes targeted a hydropower plant, a war crime under the Geneva conventions, as confirmed by Ukraine’s foreign ministry. US President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s actions, while Nato member Poland reported a violation of airspace by a Russian drone. Russia claimed to have struck Ukrainian forces along the front in the Kursk region as Ukrainian forces advanced in the area.

In Siberia, a fire at an oil refinery in Omsk resulted in one death and six injuries, with the cause of the fire remaining unspecified. Journalist Ivan Lyubish-Kirdey of Reuters was critically injured in a missile strike in Kramatorsk, with one Reuters safety adviser killed and another journalist injured.

As Switzerland hosted a commemoration of the Geneva conventions, Russia was notably absent. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine continues to escalate, with calls for Western support as the situation remains dire.
