The Indiana Fever defeated the Atlanta Dream 84-79 in front of a record crowd of 17,608 on Monday night. Kelsey Mitchell led the way for the Fever with 29 points, while Caitlin Clark added 19 points. Despite a strong comeback effort by Atlanta in the second half, the Fever managed to hold on for the win.
The Dream, who started the day half a game out of a playoff spot, were led by Tina Charles with 21 points. Rookie Aari McDonald also made an impact with 16 points. However, it was not enough to overcome the Fever’s strong performance.
Indiana’s Aliyah Boston recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Damiris Dantas scored 33 points off the bench. Clark tied the rookie record for 3-pointers in a season with four in the game.
The game was moved to the home of the Atlanta Hawks to accommodate the large crowd, surpassing the previous attendance record. The gold medal team from the 1996 Atlanta Olympics was also honored at halftime.
The Fever’s victory improves their record to 14-16, while the Dream fall to 10-19. Both teams will look to continue their playoff push as the regular season winds down.
