Heat Advisory Issued for Tuesday with Heat Index Over 100 Degrees | August 27, 2024 – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

Central and northern Indiana are under a Heat Advisory for much of the week, with high temperatures and humidity expected. The advisory, in effect from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m., warns of heat indices reaching the triple digits, with actual temperatures in the mid to upper 90s, possibly hitting triple digits in some areas. Light winds and lots of sunshine are expected with little relief from the heat.

Tonight, temperatures will drop into the lower 70s with partly cloudy skies, and isolated showers or thunderstorms are possible, particularly in northern Indiana. Wednesday will bring another hot and humid day with highs in the lower 90s, heat indices in the triple digits, and scattered showers and thunderstorms expected. Some storms may be severe with gusty winds.

The streak of 90-degree days will continue into Thursday and Friday, with a cold front expected to bring showers and thunderstorms later Friday. Cooler temperatures and lower humidity will move in for the weekend, with highs in the lower 80s on Saturday and Sunday. Labor Day is expected to be in the 70s with dry conditions.

The last time central Indiana experienced seven consecutive days in the 90s was in July 2020. The upcoming weather pattern poses risks of heat-related illnesses and storm hazards, so residents are advised to take precautions and stay informed about changing conditions.
