Indiana storm chances forecasted as oppressive heat fades

A heat advisory is in effect for central Indiana until 9 pm today, with temperatures reaching the middle 90s and heat index values between 100-110 degrees. The advisory warns residents to limit time outdoors, take frequent breaks, and stay hydrated. Relief from the heat may come as a few storms are expected to move through northern Indiana tomorrow morning and extend into central Indiana. Temperatures are expected to warm back up into the upper 80s and low 90s with a chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon and early evening. The rain from these storms will help bring relief from the high temperatures. By the end of the week, the upper-level ridge causing the heat will begin to break down, bringing a cooler and more pleasant air mass to central Indiana for Labor Day weekend.Residents in southeastern portions of the state should be prepared for the hottest temperatures and the possibility of storms later in the day. The heatwave currently affecting central Indiana is expected to subside soon, with more comfortable conditions on the horizon for the long weekend. Stay safe and stay cool in the meantime.
