Alix Earle, the host of the “Hot Mess with Alix Earle” podcast and a TikTok star, has addressed the circulating screenshots from her past that show her using a racial slur. The 23-year-old social media influencer, who was recently named to the Forbes 30 under 30 list for social media, confirmed the authenticity of the screenshots and apologized for her ignorance as a teenager.
In an Instagram story, Earle admitted to using the slur when she was 13 years old in 2014, expressing regret for her actions and acknowledging the hurt they caused. She emphasized that her use of the word does not reflect her true beliefs and values, as her platform has always been built on positivity and uplifting others.
Despite being advised not to address the issue, Earle took responsibility for her inaction and admitted that her silence allowed rumors to spread. She expressed disappointment in herself for not speaking out sooner and vowed to learn from the experience.
Earle, who gained popularity on TikTok for sharing her struggles with acne, has since expanded her brand to include transparency about her personal experiences, such as undergoing breast augmentation and battling disordered eating. Despite misconceptions about her, she maintains that her audience understands her authenticity and the motivation behind her content.
The screenshots, which have resurfaced in recent weeks after initially being shared two years ago, have prompted Earle to publicly address the matter and apologize to those she has offended. The social media star, who hails from New Jersey and currently resides in Miami, is committed to continuing her message of positivity and authenticity in the face of controversy.
