Consumer Reports Ranks Top Used Cars in Indianapolis, Indiana: News, Weather, and Traffic Updates

Consumer Reports has released its first-ever brand ranking for used cars, aiming to help buyers find the best, most reliable option to fit their needs and budget. With new car prices averaging nearly $50,000, many are turning to the used car market where prices have come down but still hover around $30,000.

The survey focused on vehicles from the 2014 to 2019 model years, looking at data from 150,000 vehicles collected. Lexus and Toyota top the list of 26 brands, with Mazda coming in third. Acura and Honda rounded up the top five brands, while Tesla, Dodge, and Chrysler were at the bottom of the list.

It’s important for buyers to focus on the model and the year they’re considering, as not every model year from even a reliable brand is created equal. Consumer Reports named 10 used cars as its Top Picks, including the 2017 Chevrolet Cruze for under $10,000 and the 2018 Honda HR-V with top safety features. The 2015 Toyota Tacoma is a recommended choice for those in the market for a pickup truck.

It’s crucial for a used car to be well maintained over the years to ensure it runs smoothly. While buying from a private seller may provide a better deal, Consumer Reports’ survey results showed that consumers who purchase certified pre-owned cars report fewer problems compared to buying from other sources. Whether purchasing a used car or a certified pre-owned one, finding a reliable vehicle that will last for miles and years ahead is key.
