The opening ceremonies for the 2024 Paralympics in Paris have kicked off with a message of unity and inclusivity. The ceremony featured speeches from various dignitaries, including Tony Estanguet, the president of Paris 2024, who welcomed the athletes to a “revolution” that celebrates diversity and challenges limitations. The event showcased the best of Paris and humanity, with performances by dancers and singers, as well as a poignant montage of some of the greatest Paralympic moments.
The parade of athletes along the iconic Champs-Élysées highlighted the largest-ever number of female participants and a record number of delegations from 182 countries. The opening ceremony, which incorporated artistic performances and the lighting of the Paralympic torch, aimed to promote inclusion and accessibility, symbolizing a commitment to embracing diversity.
The Paralympic Games in Paris will feature 11 days of intense competition with 22 sports and a record 4,400 athletes, culminating in the awarding of 549 gold medals.
