Purdue University recently announced the addition of eight former student-athletes to the Leroy Keyes Purdue Athletics Hall of Fame. This year’s group includes Devynne Charlton, Annie Drews, Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, Bob Ford, Katie Gearlds, Laura Gonzalez-Escallon, Kevin Plawecki, and Tim Stratton. The athletes will be officially inducted on October 18 during a private ceremony followed by recognition at the Boilermakers’ football game against Oregon.
The class of 2024 features distinguished athletes with impressive accomplishments. Charlton was named the 2017 Purdue Athletics Female Athlete of the Year and won five Big Ten individual titles. Drews earned AVCA Second Team All-America honors, while Enekwechi was a 13-time All-American and runner-up in the 2016 NCAA Championships in both weight throw and shot put. Ford was a First Team All-Big Ten selection and ranks tenth in the program’s history for scoring and rebounding. Gearlds, a four-time All-Big Ten Conference selection, is currently the head coach of Purdue women’s basketball.
Gonzalez-Escallon was named the Big Ten Conference Golfer of the Year and finished third at the NCAA Championships in 2011 and 2012. Plawecki, the 2012 Big Ten Conference Player of the Year, was a co-MVP of the 2012 Boilermakers baseball team. Stratton, the first recipient of the John Mackey Award in 2000, was recognized as the nation’s best tight end.
Purdue Athletics praised the accomplishments of these athletes and is looking forward to honoring them in the fall. The Hall of Fame class of 2024 represents a diverse group of talented individuals who have left a lasting impact on Purdue Athletics history.
