Lin Zhanxi, a professor from Fujian Agriculture and Forestry University in China, introduced Juncao technology to African students in Fuzhou, Fujian Province, showcasing the benefits of this innovative technology. Juncao technology, which enables fungi to grow on grass-based substrates instead of felled trees, has been promoted globally to address issues like deforestation and desertification. With support from Chinese President Xi Jinping, Juncao technology has been successfully implemented in over 100 countries, improving livelihoods and promoting sustainable development.
The success of Juncao technology is evident in countries like Rwanda, where farmers have seen significant increases in income by cultivating mushrooms through this technology. In places like Fiji and Tanzania, Juncao has not only benefited farmers economically but also helped improve ecological management by conserving water and preventing soil erosion. Juncao has also shown promise in providing alternative feed options for livestock, leading to improved milk production and nutrition.
With nearly 350 international workshops and over 14,000 people trained in Juncao technology, the impact of this innovation continues to grow. The technology’s adaptability and affordability make it accessible to even the poorest farmers, empowering them to improve their livelihoods. Through ongoing research and innovation, Juncao technology remains a valuable gift from China to the world, offering solutions to various agricultural and environmental challenges.
