An Indiana man, Alfred Ruf, has been sentenced to four years in prison and five years of probation for trying to poison his wife with a poisonous substance in her Coca-Cola so he could marry her daughter. Ruf admitted to spiking his wife’s drinks with a substance given to him by his wife’s 31-year-old daughter, leading to his guilty plea on aggravated battery charges in July.
Ruf’s wife discovered his actions and reported them to the authorities, leading to his arrest and subsequent confession. His wife tested positive for MDMA, cocaine, and Benzodiazepines in her blood and urine, all of which she denied using. Ruf explained that the substance was intended to make his wife fall asleep for an extended period, eventually leading to her death.
Ruf also confessed that after drugging his wife, he would engage in sexual activities with his wife’s daughter and her friend, who would also drug his wife further. The daughter expressed a desire to have her mother out of the picture and mentioned a life insurance policy that would benefit Ruf once his wife was taken care of.
Ruf admitted to feeling guilty, which prompted him to confess to his wife and authorities. He also detailed taking his wife to the hospital multiple times due to severe symptoms from the drug cocktail. Ruf’s defense attorney acknowledged that his client took responsibility for his actions and acknowledged the seriousness of the offense. Ruf was the only person charged in the case.
