Indy Parks hosted a community open house to discuss design concepts for a new nature center located at the future Riverside Adventure Park. The department is pursuing a $6.8 million grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to fund the project, which will include improvements such as a trail network, nature playground, picnic shelters, and an archery range.
Alex Cortwright, chief communications officer with Indy Parks, mentioned that the reaction to the investments made in Riverside has been positive. The open house was the first step towards gathering input for the design of the nature center. Design planning for the project is expected to take place over the next six months.
The new nature center will be located south of West 38th Street between Cold Spring Road and the White River, adding to the existing nature centers at Eagle Creek Park and Holliday Park. The display boards at the open house were inspired by other successful nature centers around the country.
The project aims to create a space where the community can connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities. The grant from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources will help fund the development of the Riverside Adventure Park, providing residents with a new recreational opportunity close to downtown Indianapolis.
