The impact of the local version of Project 2025 is already evident.

The Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, a toxic playbook for a potential second Trump administration, has Democrats concerned as it outlines a Christian nationalist agenda. While Trump doesn’t need to win in November for this blueprint to be implemented, red states are already enacting similar policies at the state level. These initiatives empower extreme ideologues to override public health and education policies, target marginalized groups such as transgender individuals, and enable vigilantes to enforce restrictive laws.

Examples include Indiana’s “Eyes on Education” website, Florida’s ban on transgender restroom use, and Georgia’s electoral rule changes. These state policies, once implemented, will remain in place regardless of the outcome of the presidential election. A Democratic victory alone is not enough to stop the implementation of Project 2025, as it has already infiltrated state laws. Liberal lawmakers must act to protect individuals fleeing red states and hold vigilantes accountable for attacks.

The response to Project 2025 must be multifaceted and agile, mirroring the complexity and reach of the initiative itself. Liberal states have the power to adopt measures that protect citizens and serve as a model for federal civil rights protections. By taking action at the state level, opponents of Project 2025 can level the playing field and protect Americans across the country from the harmful effects of this agenda.
