Fallen Indiana deputy begins journey home in two-state procession – Indianapolis News | Indiana Weather | Indiana Traffic

The body of Corporal Brandon Schreiber, who was killed in a shootout in Illinois, is being escorted back to Indiana by the Newton County Sheriff’s Office. The procession will pass through several small communities before arriving in Kentland, where a ‘Blue Light’ ceremony is scheduled. Schreiber is the third Newton County Deputy to die in the line of duty and the ninth Indiana law enforcement officer to die in another state. The Sheriff’s office has parked Schreiber’s fleet vehicle as a memorial on the Courthouse lawn and is inviting people to visit and leave flowers. Plans for Schreiber’s funeral have not yet been finalized. This is the second line-of-duty death of an Indiana deputy this year, following the electrocution of Hendricks County Deputy Fred Fislar in April. The community is coming together to honor and remember Corporal Schreiber’s sacrifice.
