Mayor Joe Hogsett has signed a proposal for a special investigative committee of City-County Council members to look into sexual harassment allegations within city government. The move comes after explosive allegations made against his former chief of staff Thomas Cook, who was accused of sexual harassment by multiple women.
Hogsett defended his handling of the allegations against Cook, stating that he handed the investigation over to an outside law firm when the allegations first arose. After the investigation was completed, Hogsett sanctioned Cook and prohibited him from having sexual relationships with city employees.
Questions have been raised about the documentation proving that the investigation took place, with Hogsett citing confidentiality as a reason for not releasing all documents to the public. One of the accusers, Lauren Roberts, has requested a meeting with the mayor and the investigator to discuss the matter further.
During a news conference, Hogsett emphasized the importance of addressing the allegations and updating policies to create a safe working environment for all city employees. He expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigative committee and assured that his administration is taking steps to address the issues.
The mayor’s response to the situation has garnered attention, with concerns raised about the handling of sexual harassment within city government. The investigative committee will further examine the allegations and work towards ensuring a safe and comfortable working environment for all employees.
