Homeless man found guilty of downtown Indianapolis assaults in 2020

A 42-year-old man has been convicted of attempted murder and other charges after a series of attacks on women in downtown Indianapolis in June 2020. Victor Johnson stabbed a woman while she was jogging on the downtown Cultural Trail and also attacked other women near the Veterans Memorial Plaza. Johnson’s home was listed as a homeless shelter in downtown Indianapolis. He will be sentenced on October 7th.

The first reported incident occurred on June 17, 2020 when a woman said Johnson assaulted her outside an apartment complex. Less than 90 minutes later, another woman reported that Johnson pulled a knife on her in a parking lot. The next day, three women were attacked near Veterans Memorial Plaza, with Johnson making lewd comments and physically assaulting them.

On June 18, 2020, Johnson stabbed a woman in the neck near Walnut and Illinois streets. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition. Johnson was apprehended by police shortly after the attack. He made several bizarre claims to detectives during questioning, including being attacked by females earlier in the day and people coming out of time machines to bother him.

The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has successfully convicted Johnson of attempted murder and other charges related to these attacks. The case has raised concerns about the safety of women in downtown Indianapolis and the need for increased security measures. Johnson’s sentencing is scheduled for later this year.
