Christian McCaffrey of the 49ers is put on injured reserve

The San Francisco 49ers have placed All-Pro running back Christian McCaffrey on injured reserve due to lingering calf and Achilles tendon injuries, forcing him to miss at least four more games. McCaffrey, who led the NFL in yards from scrimmage last season, initially got hurt in training camp and has been dealing with issues since. Backup Jordan Mason stepped up in his absence, rushing for 147 yards and a touchdown in their recent win over the New York Jets. With McCaffrey out, the Niners will likely rely on Mason, a former undrafted free agent, to carry the workload. They also have rookie Isaac Guerendo and Patrick Taylor Jr. on the active roster as additional options. Injuries have been a recurring issue for McCaffrey, who missed 23 games over his final two seasons with the Carolina Panthers before joining the 49ers. Despite his past availability concerns, McCaffrey had been healthy over the past two seasons until his recent setback. The team has also elevated safety Tracy Walker III from the practice squad for their upcoming game against Minnesota. The 49ers will need to adapt to McCaffrey’s absence and continue to find ways to win without him on the field.
