PORTLAND, Ind. – Kyle Love, a teacher at Jay County Junior-Senior High School, shared his experience surviving a tornado that hit his home on Sunday night. The National Weather Service did not issue a warning before the twister hit. Love described the terrifying experience of the tornado causing damage to his house and the neighboring school.

Despite the lack of warning, Love managed to escape the collapsing structure with minor injuries. His home sustained significant damage with the roof being ripped off and thrown into his neighbor’s house. Love, who is also a part-time firefighter, compared the noise of the tornado to a jet engine.

In response to the damage, Jay Schools announced the closure of the high school and implemented remote learning for students. The district is working to provide support and information to parents and students during this challenging time.

Overall, the community of Portland, Indiana is coming together to recover from the tornado and support those affected by the natural disaster. Love, while dealing with the aftermath of the tornado, remains grateful to be alive and is taking things one day at a time.
