The Secret Service is increasing security around former President Donald Trump following an apparent assassination attempt at his golf course in West Palm Beach, Florida. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, was charged in connection with the incident and appeared in court on Monday. Routh dropped off a letter declaring the attempted assassination, but law enforcement was alerted by a civilian who received the letter along with phones, ammunition, and notes. This comes just two months after another gunman shot Trump in the ear during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. Despite these incidents, Trump plans to return to Butler on October 5. In response to these events, the House unanimously voted to increase protection for all presidential candidates, giving them the same level of security as presidents. The Secret Service is implementing new measures to heighten the protection of the former president, as visible when he arrived in Pennsylvania with an agent closely following him. Trump is taking these security threats seriously and the agency is taking a heightened posture to ensure his safety.
