The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has entered its 942nd day, with the situation escalating on Tuesday, September 24, 2024. In the latest developments, Russian attacks on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia resulted in one death and five injuries, while Ukrainian shelling of the village of Arkhangelskoe caused three deaths and two injuries. The Russian Foreign Ministry reported that 56 civilians were killed and 266 injured in the Kursk region since Ukraine’s incursion, while Ukraine denied targeting civilians and called for UN and Red Cross access to verify the situation.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is in the US seeking support to end Russian aggression, including approval to use Western-supplied longer-range weapons on Russian military targets. A UN Human Rights Council commission reported that Russian prisons were withholding medical care for Ukrainian prisoners and engaging in torture, with a system of fear and punishment worsening in Russia.
