A tornado damaged multiple barns and resulted in two minor injuries in LaGrange County, Indiana on Tuesday afternoon, according to the LaGrange County Emergency Management. The storm, which appeared to be a tornado, occurred following a tornado warning that was issued for the county just after 5 p.m. The warning was then upgraded to an observed tornado warning. The injuries occurred when the tornado overturned a horse-drawn buggy. The director of the county’s Emergency Management, Bill Morr, stated that a National Weather Service survey team was scheduled to assess the tornado’s strength and damage the following day.
Neighboring communities in Michigan and Ohio also experienced multiple tornado warnings on Tuesday, with the weather service office in Syracuse, Indiana issuing alerts throughout the afternoon and night. LaGrange County is located about an hour’s drive northwest of Fort Wayne. If confirmed, the LaGrange County tornado would be the fourth tornado to hit Indiana that week. Prior tornadoes hit Yorktown, Jay County, and Portland, with the latter causing closures at the Jay County Junior-Senior High School through at least Monday. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather warnings and take necessary precautions during severe weather events.
