Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump criticized Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for not negotiating with Russia to end the war in Ukraine during a campaign rally in North Carolina. Trump claimed that even the “worst deal” would be better than the current level of death and destruction in the country. He accused Zelenskyy of not making a deal that could have prevented the obliteration of cities and loss of lives.
Trump also criticized Zelenskyy for making negative comments about him and his running mate JD Vance, calling them “nasty little dispersions.” This criticism came after Zelenskyy urged world leaders not to settle for a temporary ceasefire but to strive for a just and lasting peace at the UN General Assembly.
Trump has repeatedly claimed that he has a plan to end the war almost immediately but has provided few details. He stated in an interview that he has a “very exacting plan” but cannot disclose it until it is put into action.
The tensions between Trump and Zelenskyy highlight the challenges of negotiating peace in Ukraine, with Trump insisting that a deal, even a bad one, would be better than the current situation of destruction and loss of life in the country. Zelenskyy, on the other hand, is pushing for the expulsion of Russian forces from Ukraine as part of his 2022 peace formula.
