Follow Hurricane Helene’s trajectory, projected path, and current status

Hurricane Helene made landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region as a Category 4 storm with maximum sustained winds of 140 mph. It quickly moved inland and weakened to a Category 2 hurricane as it traveled into southern Georgia. Several states, including Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, declared emergencies ahead of the storm’s arrival. Flooding is a major concern in these areas. Helene began as a tropical storm in the western Caribbean Sea, causing flooding in the Cayman Islands before intensifying into a powerful hurricane. Forecasters warned of an “unsurvivable” storm surge and a wide wind swath of over 400 miles from the storm. Residents in the affected areas were urged to stay updated on the storm’s progress and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
