Indiana AG Pursuing Second Execution Date

Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita is urging the Indiana Supreme Court to set an execution date for convicted cop killer Benjamin Ritchie, who fatally shot Beech Grove Police Officer William Toney in 2000. Rokita cited the need for justice without delay, especially for those who harm law enforcement officers.

Ritchie has been on death row for 22 years, and Rokita believes it is time for him to pay his debt to society. The Indiana Department of Correction had previously faced challenges in obtaining the necessary drug, pentobarbital, for executions, but this issue has now been resolved.

This move comes after the Indiana Supreme Court set an execution date for another convicted murderer, Joseph Corcoran, who killed four people. Rokita filed a motion asking for Corcoran’s execution date to be set, and it was scheduled for December 18.

Rokita’s efforts to expedite the execution process for these convicted murderers align with his commitment to upholding justice and ensuring that those who commit heinous crimes face the consequences of their actions promptly. The families of the victims, as well as the Indiana community, deserve closure and the assurance that justice will be served.
