Australian Prime Minister issues warning about pro-Palestinian rally as police push for ban | Latest updates on Israel-Palestine conflict

The Palestine Action Group has condemned Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s call to cancel a pro-Palestinian rally scheduled for the anniversary of Hamas’s attacks on Israel and the start of Israel’s war on Gaza. The rally, planned for October 7, has been described by Albanese as “incredibly provocative” and likely to cause distress. Police in New South Wales have applied to the state’s top court to prohibit the event, citing safety concerns.

In response, the Palestine Action Group has criticized the bid to ban the rallies as an attack on fundamental democratic rights. The group argues that they have a right to demonstrate and refuse to back down in the face of political pressure. They also oppose the Australian government’s complicity in what they describe as Israel’s genocidal war against Palestine.

Controversy has also arisen over the display of the flag of Hezbollah, a listed terrorist organization, during recent pro-Palestinian protests in Melbourne and Sydney. The Australian government has passed legislation banning symbols belonging to terrorist organizations, including Hezbollah and Hamas. NSW Police have recently arrested a 19-year-old woman for allegedly carrying a Hezbollah flag at a pro-Palestinian march in Sydney.

The Palestine Action Group is firm in their stance against the attempt to silence protests calling for action against Israel’s actions in Palestine. They believe that the Australian government must not turn a blind eye to what they see as a genocidal war being waged by Israel. The group remains committed to their cause despite the bans and arrests being imposed by the authorities.
