A group of over 300 national security experts, including former Cabinet members from the Trump administration, endorsed former President Donald Trump, praising his foreign policy record and calling him a “peacemaker.” Led by former national security adviser Robert O’Brien and former NSC chief of staff Alex Gray, the group lauded Trump’s role in securing peace globally. Signatories include former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, former Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and former National Intelligence Director John Ratcliffe.
The endorsement comes amidst conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine, with Trump recently commenting on the need for negotiation and resolution in these areas. Separately, federal prosecutors have argued that Trump and co-conspirators, in their private capacities, attempted to block Congress from certifying the 2020 election results, which Trump denies.
Former Attorney General William Barr, who was a signer of the endorsement letter, previously referred to the January 6 case as legitimate obstruction of justice. However, the national security experts did not mention this in their letter, focusing instead on criticizing the Biden-Harris administration’s foreign policy failures.
The letter emphasized the disrupted peace caused by America’s adversaries during the Biden-Harris administration and highlighted the need for Trump’s leadership to restore security. Despite the absence of certain former administration officials as signatories, the letter’s messaging suggests that Trump would attract top talent for a potential second term.
