The Indianapolis police conducted a search for an armed suspect on the southwest side of the city, resulting in two schools going into lockdown. The incident took place in the 5000 block of West Raymond Street in a residential area. The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department deployed their Aviation and K-9 units, as well as SWAT, to assist in the search for the suspect. No arrests were made during the search.
The Metropolitan School District of Wayne Township confirmed that Wayne Preparatory Academy and Maplewood Elementary were placed on lockdown as a precautionary measure. The lockdowns were lifted around 10:30 a.m. while IMPD continued their investigation in the area. Drivers and pedestrians were advised to avoid the area during the search.
The situation caused a disruption in the neighborhood, prompting authorities to ask the public to stay away from the area. News 8 deployed a crew to cover the unfolding events.
