During Recent International Trip, Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb Highlights Partnership with Saudi Arabia

Gov. Holcomb Completes Final International Economic Development Trip to Middle East

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb concluded his 27th and final international economic development trip on November 20, visiting Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as he aims to strengthen partnerships in the life sciences and defense sectors. This trip, funded by private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Foundation, marks the end of Holcomb’s international engagements before he hands over leadership to Mike Braun in January.

During his visit to Saudi Arabia, Holcomb and Indiana officials met with U.S. Ambassador Michael Ratney and visited Zimmer Biomet’s facility. They discussed opportunities to enhance cultural and economic relationships, with Indiana and Saudi Arabia exchanging $418 million in goods in 2023. Holcomb expressed optimism about these partnerships, emphasizing the importance of personal presence in fostering relationships.

In Kuwait, Holcomb visited a military base housing Indiana soldiers deployed in support of Operation Spartan Shield. There, he met with local officials to deepen ties between Indiana and Kuwait. With tensions rising in the region, the Indiana National Guard is prepared for various missions, including potential future domestic operations under federal directives.

Holcomb reflected on the sacrifices of deployed soldiers, noting their absence from important holidays, and expressed pride in their service. "To be able to check in…they would make you proud to see them in action," he remarked.

As he wraps up his tenure, Holcomb stressed his commitment to continuing work on deals initiated during his trip and his eagerness for future collaborations with both Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Despite his tenure ending, he affirmed, “We’ll be working until the last hour, the last day.”
