A recent scandal involving high-ranking members of the Indiana Army National Guard has been uncovered by REAL News Michiana. It centers around the sexual assault of a low-ranking soldier by Sergeant Major David Yates, leading to a cover-up by members of the Recruiting Battalion. The victim obtained an Order of Protection against Yates, who did not contest it. Former Guard member Staff Sergeant Aaron Watson assisted in reporting the assault and was later targeted for his involvement.
Watson was falsely accused of accessing confidential police reports and ultimately recommended for dismissal from the Kentucky Army National Guard. The cover-up involved forcing members of the Guard to write apology letters to both the victim and Yates after receiving publicly available documents regarding the sexual assault. The Recruiting Battalion Commander, Lieutenant Colonel Mandi Alain Samples, fabricated a story to incriminate Watson and protect Yates.
Watson has since filed complaints with the Inspector General and his wife made a public post detailing the scandal. In response, a Brigadier General issued a ‘Be on the Lookout’ order against Watson, labeling him as dangerous. Watson is now considering legal action against those involved in the cover-up.
