Hoosiers Pull Away from Spartans for Fourth Straight Win
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) — The 16th-ranked Indiana Hoosiers defeated UNC Greensboro 69-58 on Thursday night, marking their fourth consecutive victory, all by double digits. Myles Rice led the Hoosiers with 20 points, including 14 in the first half, while freshman Bryson Tucker contributed a season-high 14 points.
The game saw consistent scoring from Indiana, with Mackenzie Mgbako, Malik Reneau, and Oumar Ballo each adding nine points. Ballo also recorded 11 rebounds, and Reneau finished with a double-digit rebounding total of ten. Despite Indiana never trailing in the game, the Spartans made things competitive, notably tying the score at 40 early in the second half thanks to Malik Henry’s three-point play.
Tucker quickly responded with five consecutive points, helping the Hoosiers regain momentum. Indiana subsequently embarked on a 9-0 run to extend their lead to 54-42, after which UNC Greensboro struggled to keep pace.
The Spartans were led by Ronald Polite III, who scored a season-high 17 points, with Donovan Atwell adding ten. However, UNC Greensboro’s usual strength in 3-point shooting faltered, as they managed only 28.1% from beyond the arc.
The game highlighted Indiana’s need for greater consistency, especially with 14 turnovers that allowed UNC Greensboro to stay within striking distance. The Hoosiers will look to build upon this performance as they prepare for their next challenge against nearby rival Louisville in the Bahamas on Wednesday. In contrast, UNC Greensboro will return to action on Monday against Long Beach State in Henderson, Nevada.
