The New Elite in America: Dual-Income No Kids couples splurging on lavish vacations and dining out extensively

A new survey by the Harris Poll revealed that DINKs, or dual-income, no kids couples, are living like the new one percent in America. With 10 vacations a year, luxurious spending habits, and a focus on personal growth, they are reshaping consumer trends. 61% of DINKs have a household income of over $100,000, with a median net worth of $399,000. While they plan to have children eventually, they are enjoying their child-free lifestyle for now, spending on luxury experiences, travel, and personal development.

These DINKs, who are seen as the new elite, have attracted the attention of luxury brands and financial services due to their high discretionary spending. They spend four times more on dining and double the typical budget on vacations compared to other Americans. With 88% investing in enriching experiences, they are shaping the market for quality-of-life upgrades.

Although some, like Elon Musk, criticize the DINK lifestyle and urge younger generations to have more children to prevent a collapse of society, many DINKs enjoy the freedom, financial security, and focus on their careers that come with not having children. Some even refer to themselves as DINKWADs, meaning dual-income, no kids with a dog. The rise of DINKs reflects a generation’s response to economic challenges, showcasing a shift in priorities toward experiences and self-development.
