Robbery Suspects Caught After Chase: Irvington Community Plays Key Role
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — An alarming robbery incident unfolded in Irvington early Thursday morning, captured on a homeowner’s surveillance camera, as suspects fled from police after a dramatic chase. Just before 8 a.m., officers from the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) responded to a call concerning a robbery at a Chase Bank in the 8800 block of Southeastern Avenue, where a Brinks Security employee was targeted.
The two suspects, accompanied by a third individual, sped off in a vehicle but soon crashed near South Arlington Avenue and Julian Avenue. A sharp-eyed 911 caller reported seeing the suspects abandon the stolen getaway cars and escape on foot.
As the suspects made their way through the neighborhood, Jeff Hutsell, a local resident, witnessed one of the robbers dart onto his porch, where he dropped a key that later served as critical evidence. Security footage from other neighbors captured the fleeing suspect leaping over fences and leaving distinct footprints in the snow.
“I thought he was maybe trying to rob yards at the time,” Hutsell remarked, unaware of the gravity of the situation unfolding on his property.
IMPD quickly mobilized multiple agencies, leading to the arrest of two suspects, while one remains at large. "There’s one person that remains outstanding that we continue to look for,” stated IMPD Officer Tommy Thompson.
Only the driver’s personal belongings were taken in the robbery, which have since been recovered. The driver was unharmed, and while local schools briefly went on lockdown as a precaution, they resumed normal operations shortly after the incident.
Authorities urge anyone with information or suspicious activity to call 911.
