Indiana’s governor-elect, Mike Braun, has revealed plans for a new cabinet structure that will include eight policy secretaries focused on core governing areas. The goal of this new cabinet model is to promote efficiency, accountability, and communication within state government. The cabinet members will include Braun, Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith, the chief of staff, and other key officials. Each policy secretary will oversee related agencies and departments within their designated policy area.
The cabinet organization will be based on policy areas such as commerce, education, health and family services, public safety, energy and natural resources, transportation and infrastructure, and business affairs. The transition team has outlined the responsibilities and reporting agencies for each cabinet position. The chief of staff will lead the cabinet meetings and set the agenda.
This new cabinet model is intended to streamline operations, drive accountability among leaders and agencies, improve coordination with the Indiana General Assembly, and enhance efficiency across state government. The current governor, Eric Holcomb, has a more traditional cabinet structure with major agency heads rather than policy-aligned secretaries. The goal of the new cabinet is to deliver tangible results for the people of Indiana by focusing on key policy areas and promoting better collaboration among government agencies.
