Two members of Indiana’s top political team have spoken out on the need for a major cultural shift in Indiana politics to address and prevent sexual harassment. The discussion comes in the wake of allegations against Senator Greg Taylor, who was reelected as Senate minority leader despite accusations of sexual harassment by former staff members and interns. Taylor has not denied the allegations but has refused to address them publicly.
Dana Black, a podcast host and former deputy director of engagement for the Indiana Democratic Party, emphasized the responsibility of men to not only refrain from harassing women but also to discourage others from doing so. She expressed disappointment in Taylor and called for accountability for those who engage in such behavior.
Mario Massillamany, chair of the Hamilton County Republican Party, highlighted the need for stricter policies governing lawmakers’ behavior towards staff, interns, lobbyists, and others in the Statehouse. He pointed out a systemic issue in protecting interns, lobbyists, and others at the Statehouse from harassment.
Both Black and Massillamany underscored the urgency of addressing sexual harassment in Indiana politics and advocating for a safer and more respectful work environment for all. Their comments were made on the “All INdiana Politics” program, which airs on WISH-TV. The discussion sheds light on the importance of addressing and preventing sexual harassment in the political sphere and the need for cultural change to achieve this goal.
