Michigan State’s defense came up big in the fourth quarter, with linebacker Jordan Turner intercepting a pass to seal the victory. Smith’s team has exceeded expectations this season and a win in the upcoming final game against Rutgers would secure a spot in the postseason.
Looking forward, Purdue will face Indiana on the road as heavy underdogs to conclude their season. Michigan State will host Rutgers, needing a win to secure a bowl game in Smith’s first season as head coach.
