President-elect Donald Trump has selected Russell Vought to lead the Office of Management and Budget. Trump praised Vought as an aggressive cost cutter and deregulator who will help implement the America First Agenda. Vought has previously served in this role in Trump’s first term and is seen as someone who can dismantle the Deep State and return self-governance to the people. In response to his nomination, Vought expressed gratitude and a sense of unfinished business on behalf of the American people. Vought has advocated for setting fiscal goals early in the budget development process to address the federal government’s fiscal irresponsibility and believes the President’s budget is a powerful mechanism for enforcing public policy at federal agencies. While Trump and his allies distanced themselves from Project 2025, a conservative initiative with policy proposals from the Heritage Foundation, Vought’s association with the agenda did not deter his appointment. If confirmed by the Senate, Vought would oversee the budget and execution of Trump’s policies across executive departments and agencies. Vought previously served as the acting director of the Office of Management and Budget.
