A former teacher in Indiana is facing serious allegations of organizing a “Fight Club” in his classroom, where he encouraged students to physically assault a 7-year-old student with disabilities. The mother of the child filed a lawsuit against the teacher and other officials from George Washington Carver Montessori IPS School 87 in Indianapolis. The lawsuit claims that the teacher orchestrated the abuse over a span of three months, recording at least one incident of violence and encouraging other students to beat up the child.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has opened an investigation into the allegations outlined in the lawsuit. The school district has stated that they took immediate action upon learning about the allegations, with the teacher being suspended and subsequently resigning. The district claims they were not aware of the teacher’s behavior until the parent reported it to the principal.
The lawsuit alleges that the child was subjected to multiple beatings and acts of violence, causing him to suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder. The child’s mother repeatedly raised concerns with the teacher, who dismissed the allegations as behavioral issues or lies. The suit also claims the parents were shown a video of the child being attacked by his classmates, with the teacher instigating and encouraging the violence.
The child is now being homeschooled and is in therapy to address the emotional distress caused by the abuse. The lawsuit seeks damages for the negligent care and supervision, hiring, and infliction of serious emotional distress. The case highlights the severe consequences of teacher misconduct and the importance of thorough investigations and accountability in educational settings.
