Indianapolis police officer, Ofc. Herman Means, was arrested on Tuesday on charges of battery and strangulation after a domestic violence incident at his home. Means, a 7-year veteran with the department, will be placed on administrative leave once released from jail. Whiteland Police Department officers responded to the report and found that the complainant had been battered and restrained. Means was taken into custody and his department equipment has been collected. The Johnson County prosecutor will make the final charging decision. This is the second IMPD officer to be arrested in less than a week, with Shane Decker facing voyeurism and official misconduct charges. IMPD is conducting an internal investigation and urges those in need of resources to contact the Victims Assistance unit. The Domestic Violence Network website provides a list of resources for victims of domestic violence.
