A worker in Wellesley, Massachusetts was seriously injured when he received an electric shock while hanging Christmas lights on a tree. The contractor, a 22-year-old man working for NZ Power Wash in Framingham, was using a 34-foot pole to string up the lights when it came into contact with an electrical line, giving him a shock. He collapsed and was found unconscious and not breathing by a coworker, who performed CPR until police arrived. The police used an automated external defibrillator to restart his heart and he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was later transferred to Massachusetts General Hospital for further treatment and is recovering.
The incident is being investigated by OSHA, along with local authorities, to determine what happened. The Wellesley Police, Fire, and WMLP Departments have extended their thoughts and prayers to the victim and his family. The man is said to be lucky if he survives, as he received a large electric shock and went into cardiac arrest. The coworker who witnessed the incident declined to comment on the situation.
The community and authorities are hoping for a full recovery for the injured worker and are working to understand what caused the incident to prevent similar incidents in the future.
